In this war memoir, W A Lewis recounts the harsh conditions of the war in North Africa. He pays great attention to detail in his descriptions of human and physical geography of Tobruk. He goes on to describe the kind of fighting he saw in the defense of the city and later recounts his capture and experiences as a P.O.W
