Testimony Segments

We are proud to present to you a number of testimony segments from within the large collection of testimonies that is part of our holdings. The collection contains the testimonies of Holocaust survivors and Israeli Jewish fighters who enlisted in the British army.

The Holocaust survivors’ testimonies constitute an especially important historical source. The testimony describes the events and their existence as the speaker saw and experienced them. It thus presents the events from the survivor’s point of view, the victim’s, rather than from the perspective of the perpetrators as in the majority of written testimonies.

The Documentation Center of North African Jews during WWII in the Ben-Zvi Institute dedicates great effort to promote discourse and to bring the events and stories that the Jewish communities in North Africa went through during the period of the Holocaust to public knowledge. To that end, we collaborate with the documentation department at Yad Vashem and share joint materials.

The importance of collecting the testimonies increases as time passes and Holocaust survivors’ numbers diminish. Therefore, we implore you the browsers to write to us in the event that you know Holocaust survivors. We will connect them and Yad Vashem for the purposes of testimony collection.

If you are interested in watching full testimonies you can contact us or the documentation department at Yad Vashem according to the details of the relevant testimony record.
