Moshe Sharett visiting the Hebrew school of Benghazi, Libya, 1944
Submitted by dan on Tue, 05/09/2017 - 11:45The teacher, Yaakov Ben-Ami, tells of Moshe Sharett's visit to the school: "In May 1944 we were informed of a special visit ... Moshe Sharett (then Shertok), a member of the executivebranch of the World Zionist Organization, is going to visit Benghazi with Jewish soldiers and he also plans a visit to our school. During his visit, Moshe Sharett found regular classes at the school, with civilian teachers, of course, but with the advice and assistance of a "training teacher," who was a soldier in every class. His impression was beyond expectations. Sharett's visit left a great impression on every Jew. For many days the community spoke of it proudly.
From Teacher Yaacov Ben Ami : The opening of a Hebrew school and material aid, was an act fulfilled by Jewish soldiers during their stay in Benghazi.
