In March 1943, opening of a Jewish school in Benghazi in the old building of Talmud Torah, with seventy students divided into four classes. The two local teachers were joined by volunteers from Palestine, whose number has increased as the number of children returning from the Jado Concentration Camp has increased. The program included lessons in Hebrew, arithmetic, English, geography, homeland and poetry. In a short time there reigned in the school an atmosphere similar to that of a Jewish school in Palestine. The students quickly got used to the Hebrew language and learned to sing patriotic songs. Hebrew was the language of instruction, as well as the language of flags, banners, signs, and legends that adorned the classrooms but especially the language of prayers on Shabbat (Sabbath) or on Jewish holidays . With the help of Jewish soldiers from Palestine, the community rehabilitated the community school building and prepared it for its original purpose. Classes have taken both courses of Jewish tradition and Hebrew culture, the school is called since the "Hebrew School - Talmud Torah Benghazi".
