Note sur les causes du problème algérien, août 1941
Description
This note describes several points:
1. Algeria today is approaching the feudal era: there are rich powerful lords with land and a population of millions of people living in great poverty.
2. Algeria has superficial prosperity. The financial loans made to the budget of the Metropolis are more and more numerous, without this improving the general life of the population. There is a glaring lack of balance.
3. The “Indigenous social policy” made by France was the construction of some dispensaries, hospitals and schools. The teaching given in schools without adaptation is poorly assimilated by the cultivated Muslim who automatically becomes the enemy of the French administration, caught between his Islamic world and his European training.
4. Willingness to reform in the economic, social and political fields.
5. “Abandoned childhood, the yaouleds”.
