This report gives an overview of February 1947 on political activity in Constantine and on the many external events which interest Muslim circles.
During a briefing given by the Constantinian Section of the New Zionist Organization of Algeria (NSOA), one of the speakers reported on the 22nd Zionist Congress which was held in Basel on September 24, 1946, during which it was decided: the creation of a Jewish state, the control of immigration by the Jewish Agency, the insertion of the Jewish state in the British command, the maintenance to be followed with regard to the policy of England, the condemnation of the Irgun.
The report mentions the events in Palestine, including the evacuation by General Sir Alan Cunningham of English civilian women and children from Palestine, the English ship “Empire Hawood” left Haifa for Cyprus with 800 Jewish refugees … This new deportation of illegal immigrants raised fears of Haganah unrest.
At the London Conference, Jews and Arabs rejected the British plan for Palestine.
