Description

This report provides an overview of July 1942 on the political activity of elected Muslim officials, reformist ulama, the Algerian People’s Party, etc. We can also read the information on the youth of the Algerian Muslim Congress, the action of the European parties on the Natives, the native workers, the economic question, etc.

The report describes the status of the Jews. The proportion of Jews who have retained citizenship is estimated at around 40%.

Algeria had 2,671 Jewish officials. 2002 of them were made redundant.

A law outlawed “the management and operation of drinking establishments” belonging to Jews.

The main concern of the Jewish community is the education of its children excluded from schools, which has already spent 1,700,000 francs for a year for this purpose. Resources will be reduced due to the appointment of administrators to Jewish property.

The report notes “a remarkable effort of adaptation.” […] The Jewish successes in the entrance examinations to the Grandes Ecoles, in particular to Polytechnique struck everyone.

The Jews show the greatest bitterness towards France and towards the fate that it reserves for them. Some young people would like to go to America and the oldest to go to France. Some Jews campaign with Muslims against the National Revolution.
