Description

This report mentions, after the “failure of French weapons”, rumors peddled by the natives concerning the tempering of French munitions and planes. Other rumors are circulating such as: “When the Germans arrive, they will share the land among all the residents” or “Everything that happens to you is the fault of the Jews”. The report also mentions that the “evolved natives” are unhappy to have been kept away from the “collèges électoraux législatifs” . Sympathies for the English become rarer since the events of Mers El Kebir. From the point of view of the economic situation, traders and consumers are engage in frauds.

Commune mixte in French colonial period is a neighborhood managed by civil servants French, Arab (indigenous) and Jews.
