Letter from Atahias Joseph addressed to the Engineer of Bridges and Roads regarding his nationality, Tébessa, November 13, 1940
Description
In his letter, Atahias provides several explanations about his status:
1. He is indeed of Jewish race, but he must be considered a French citizen as the son of a foreigner living in Algeria (therefore escaping the status of Algerian Jews).
2. He obtained French naturalization by the decree of January 5, 1928. (IMG7926)
3. Being a Tunisian subject, he does not fall under the statute established for Algerian Jews.
