Rapport mensuel sur l’activité musulmane dans le Département de Constantine, janvier 1948
Description
This report gives an overview of January 1948 on political activity in Constantine and on the many external events which interest Muslim circles.
The anti-Semitic reactions following the UN decision to partition Palestine seem to be intentionally suppressed by Nationalists of all tendencies and clumsy activity of pro-Zionist Israelite elements.
A leaflet entitled “Against any partition of Palestine” continued to circulate in several centers.
Volunteer recruiting offices in Batna and Kenchela were reported. It is not yet known whether the young men would be sent to Palestine or would be incorporated into an army formed for the subsequent liberation of North Africa.
The Israelites remain cautious. Surveys have been made among the Jewish populations and recruiting agents are looking for young Israelites who are likely to enlist as volunteers for Palestine.
The elections of five Algerian delegates to the second session of the World Jewish Congress, to be held in Montreux, will take place across Algeria on February 8, 1948.
