North African Jews were affected by the war and even suffered the loss of loved ones. Their fate differed from country to country. In several of the countries there were measures implemented that are familiar to us from Europe, for example, sending the Jews to concentration and work camps and obligating them to wear the yellow star. Due to the war, Jews were forced to seek refuge in Arab settlements. Like the general population in the North African countries, their houses were destroyed in airstrikes and they suffered from shortages. They lived in fear of the future.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>The Documentation Center of North African Jews during World War II was part of the research activity of the Ben-Zvi Institute for the Study of Jewish Communities in the East and was funded by the Claims Conference. The purposes of the center, which was founded in 2007 and closed at the end of August 2025, were to research the history of North African Jews during World War II and to increase public awareness of the topic\u2019s importance.<\/p>\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_83264\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-83264\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
