Compte-rendu journalier sur l’état d’esprit des indigènes et sur le statut des Juifs, Constantine, 23 octobre 1940
Description
This report provides several information:
1/ On the state of mind of the natives: slight incidents between merchants and native buyers took place. Misery, the lack of work and foodstuffs aggravate the state of mind of the populations. Urgent measures are requested.
2/ On the status of the Jews: Many Jews would put their money in safety. They would buy gold, which would be smuggled to England for use in victory. The Communist Party would continue its action thanks to Jewish funds. They would be the best agents of the Third International.
3/ On respect for the family: Rigorous measures must be taken against those who bully the family, especially in advertisements asking for a “household without children”.
