Description

Published in Germany in 1938, “Afrikanischer Frühling” will be translated and published a year later in France under the title “Visage de la France en Afrique”. This book is a voluminous work of 418 pages, 48 photos, and a geographical map illustrating the author’s travel impressions which are reported in the form of a diary. He retraces the highlights of his journey and shares with the reader his joys, his encounters, and discoveries, but also his disappointments and disillusions.

This excerpt tells the thoughts of the author, Friedrich Sieburg, about the countries or regions of North Africa: Tunisia, Algeria, the Sahara, Sudan and Morocco. It describes populations, customs, colonization, Arab nationalism, Islam, neo-destour, etc.
