September 21, 1942 – Admiral Esteva, Resident General in Tunis reports to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that « Mr. Schartzman […] when he came on tour to Tunis […] went to the Arsenal of Sidi-Abdallah in Bizerte and had five Alsatian workers summoned to whom he declared that their parents who remained in Alsace asked them to come back. The five workers […] all affirmed that they had no parents in Alsace and did not wish to leave Tunisia where they had their situation ».
