July 17, 1942 – Admiral Esteva, Resident General in Tunis reports on the visit made to him by Mr. Pfeiffer, Consul General of Germany in Algiers. He indicated that the Consul wanted to see « all the authorities and all the directors and heads of services », but he made him understand that this was not possible. Mr. Pfeiffer « told me that having spent 4 years in Russia, he knows the Bolsheviks well and that Europe must unite against them to save Christian civilization ». He « insisted on this last point : Christendom is threatened by the Soviets and our only hope of removing it from their enterprise is the merciless struggle against the Russians ».
