Extract from the newspaper El Bassaïr on the defense of Palestine, January 13, 1939
Description
The newspaper El Bassaïr reproduces a speech delivered by Ustad Fares El Khouri, president of the Syrian Chamber of Deputies on the occasion of a ceremony in memory of the leader Brahim Henanou. The speaker demonstrates that the Jews cannot invoke history to legitimize their claim to Palestine because in this case, “Mussolini would be entitled to claim England, the Mediterranean and the entire Roman Empire from Julius Caesar …” He asserts that the settlement of Jews in Palestine is a most serious danger for the Arabs of that country and urges the Arabs to deliver the country urgently. The French and English press exposed several solutions: the attachment of Palestine to Egypt, Syria or Transjordan.
