Rapport concernant les quêtes pour la Palestine, Constantine, 17 septembre 1938
Description
In Constantine, no official quest has been made in the mosques. In Batna and Biskra, the quests gave rise to “the usual attacks on England’s pro-Jewish policy in Palestine”. The Jewish circles of Tunis are in a state of anxiety because of external events, they worry for their safety and their affairs, while the large Jewish community of Livorno openly displays its anti-fascist feelings. The Jewish community of Tunis is said to have embezzled funds intended for the construction of an Italian hospital in Tunis, to be sent to the Jewish National Fund of Palestine. This attitude of Tunisian Jewish circles could provoke incidents between Muslims and Jews.
