Description
This report indicates that the Israelites “are beginning to have less reluctant confidence in Mr. Le Maréchal Pétain”. They are grateful to him “for having made a fair application of the new statute of the Israelites and for having allowed veterans, widows and orphans of war, etc. to retain their functions in various administrations”. “It is now admitted by them that the repeal of the Crémieux decree does not constitute an act of war, race or religion” (in the words of an article published in the newspaper “Le Républicain de Constantine”.
According to this report, the Israelites are convinced that the De Gaulle movement and the British successes remain essential elements in the safeguard of the French Israelites. Jews continue to maintain a harmonious relationship with Muslims.
