Description

This report mentions the constitution of “Amitiés Françaises” on July 4, 1938, in Constantine by Emile Morinaud and the leaders of the national parties. The main means of propaganda used by this group is “Le Républicain” which leads a violent campaign against all Jewish activity while ironing on their mores, their attitudes and their spirit. The leaders “preach to the French of metropolitan or European origin the boycott of the shops and of the Jewish workforce, while asking for their affiliation to their party”. There are two reports of layoffs of Jewish workers from “Globe Stores”  and three other dismissals from a construction company. A slight increase in turnover among non-jew traders was noted.

In Constantine, the “Syndicat des Tailleurs d’Habits” met in order to create a special organization composed only of Jews and intended to fight against the propaganda of “French Friendships”.

The possibility of extending this new movement “remains subordinate to the constant variations of political values”.
