This report gives an overview of May 1949 on political activity in Constantine and on the many external events which interest Muslim circles.

Literate Muslim circles continued to take an interest in information relating to the Palestinian question reproduced by the press.

The Israelites joyfully celebrated the first anniversary of the proclamation of the State of Israel. The ceremonies, especially in Constantine, were of a strictly private nature.

Young Jews leave for Palestine. Returns of emigrants have been reported. They haven’t been able to find work in Palestine and living conditions are said to be difficult.
