Rapport mensuel sur l’activité indigène dans le Département d’Alger, septembre 1939
Description
This report provides an overview of September 1939 on the political activity of elected Muslim officials, reformist ulama, the Algerian People’s Party, etc. We can also read there information on the youth of the Algerian Muslim congress, the action of the European parties on the Natives, the native workers, the economic question, etc.
“A certain revival of anti-Semitism has been noted, moreover in European circles than among Muslims. There is a rumor that the jews who have been mobilized, or who have left for the armed forces, are not proportionate to the number of their population. Some jewish traders have been accused of speculative maneuvers”. A few minor incidents between Europeans and Jews were reported in Algiers, Orleansville and Blida. The tension diminished following the embarkation in mid-September of jewish contingents, previously stationed in Algiers. Radio-Berlin’s Arabic propaganda cultivates this state of mind of animosity towards the Jews.
