Capt. Jacobson cannot return to his home in Magrin, which is under German occupation and flees to Baja staying on Mandery and Grenier families’s farm during 5 months.

Trying to rejoin the British forces fighting with the French but again encountering the commanders’ refusal to be a Jew. It would turn out to him that Mrs. Thomissini who knew him, and recommended not to recruit him, saved his life because all the actions against the Germans failed and some of the people were sent to Dachau.
