Note sur la situation politique et économique à Tlemcen, Alger, 13 décembre 1942
Description
This report provides several information:
1. The indigenous supporters of the Ulemas and the PPA have decided to cancel the demonstration they wanted to do as a sign of protest against the landing in Algeria of the English.
2. The Jews managed to convince a few hundred natives to go ahead of the Anglo-Saxon forces at Safsaf, to welcome them.
3. The new mayor, Mr. Cayrol, seems to have difficulty imposing his authority on his collaborators and is showing signs of weakness vis-à-vis certain native councillors. Councilor M. Mercier, in disagreement with the mayor, is about to resign.
4. The Kouloughli element makes a very active propaganda among the native reservists and the soldiers of the active, inciting them to disobey so as not to fight alongside the Anglo-Saxon forces.
