Jews circles have been hit hard by the publication of laws regulating the new Jewish Statute. The newspapers announced the numerus clausus to the Jewish students of the faculties, a measure which was requested by the Muslim students of the Faculty of Algiers. The newspapers also published the new measures taken concerning the authorization of the carrying of weapons to Algerian Jews. “The importance of the arms held by the Jews (in a legal or illegal manner) indeed required an urgent solution on the part of the Public Authorities.”
