Rapport du commissaire central de Mostaganem au Directeur de la Sécurité Générale de l’Algérie à propos de l’affaire Henri Zaoui, 14 janvier 1936
Description
This report describes the state of mind, the comments provoked by the Henri Zaoui affair in the Israelite community and on the side of the Veterans and the Iron Cross with which Jules Aubertin was decorated. On the Jewish side, it is argued that the accused Henri Zaoui is innocent and that material evidence is lacking. This case is the subject of controversy which may lead, according to some, to a resurgence of anti-Semitism. But it is also estimated “that if Zaoui escapes the just punishment for his horrible crime, it is because the united Jewish class on all occasions, will strive by all means to snatch the culprit from justice and public vindictiveness.”
