The Algerian “Jew-problem” in the Context of the French Colonial Policy, n.d.
الوصف
This document is written by the German consulate general in Algier. According to this document the riots in Algier gave the “Jew-problem” a political meaning in Algeria. So the document tells us about a certain form of antisemitism among the French people in Algeria. It is mentioned that the Jews in Algeria were used as interpreters by the French colonialists. By this their relationship with the Arabs got worse. Parts of the Jewish community gained French civil rights, so they were superior to the Arabs. The author argues that the main reason for the intense violence in the riots (riots in Constantine against Jews) is the social distance between Jews and Arabs. It is also mentioned that Arabs complain about the fact that the authorities are overstuffed with Jews.
